And he loves it when I speak Spanish, because he knows I mean just him."  That, and the fact that I do not speak Spanish, should give you a little bit of insight into my relationship with Fernando. 

Fernando is a silly, funny dog who can always make me laugh. In fact I don't think it is possible for me to stay angry with Fernando for more than 30 seconds. Not that he gives me many occasions to test that theory because he is such an amiable fellow.

Fernando is from a litter of ten, 5 boys, 5 girls. Even in a big litter like that Fernando managed to stand out and captured my heart from early on.  He was not the biggest or the pushiest or the loudest puppy, but he was always the bounciest. His engaging personality and happy nature made it impossible not to fall in love with him.

I had originally intended to show Fernando however circumstances caused me to take a hiatus from training and showing when he was a youngster. Although Fernando loved his puppy kindergarten and basic obedience classes, he has not been nearly so enamored of handling classes or dog shows themselves. I can't say that I blame him -- it's not a lot of fun to stand still and pose when you'd rather be bouncing and schmoozing. Perhaps if I were more coordinated he'd be a good candidate for agility classes, but he's stuck with me and my two left feet so that's unlikely.

As a stud dog Fernando has thus far produced only a few litters, but even in very limited breedings I have been very pleased with his kids. He tends to pass along his physical soundness and that beautiful head of his. Happily, his puppies seem to share his happy nature and general exuberance for life. And yes, many of Fernando's kids seem to have springs on their feet just like their dad.
