Mimi

Champion Dufenhof Chance to RantNRave

Mimi demanded attention right from the start and was never one to be content to be anything less than the center of attention. In fact she got her name when  as a little puppy she did not want to have to go up one step to go to the dinner dish with her littermates. Instead she would stand in the doorway and scream & fuss making sure everyone knew her opinion of the situation. She was truly a “screamin’ Mimi”. But she was also a fun, funny and loving little girl.

Mimi marched to the beat of her own drum and was not always interested in doing what I wanted her to do. Luckily, being a Tubby daughter, she was highly food motivated and quickly figured out that if she went along with my ideas, treats would follow. Even though she was very loving, it was on her terms. Snuggling with Mimi was always a brief event as she just didn’t want to be still for very long and was always on the alert for something more interesting.

Although not as strikingly beautiful as her sister Katie, Mimi was still a very pretty girl in her own right and was very correct structurally. She moved beautifully and was as sound as could be, rarely putting a foot down wrong.  She finished her championship easily defeating several  lovely girls along the way.

She was athletic and active and much more the tomboy than her sister Katie. She loved to run in the woods and thought any outdoor adventure was great fun. She LOVED to play and was such a friendly and outgoing dog that  she could get just about any dog she ever met to play with her. Left to her own devices Mimi could always get herself into mischief , but she  was never sneaky about it and would stop whatever she was doing when caught.

Sadly,  Mimi was really not meant to be a mother. She was bred twice and produced two puppies each time, but never had enough milk to nurse them and was not particularly interested in the idea of motherhood. The puppies in her first litter were tragically killed by another dog (100% my fault, not Mimi’s or the other dog’s). Her second litter was co-bred with Kathy LaRue of Stone Lea GSMD and born in CA, and was comprised of two boys  Payton & Gianluca, who survived & thrived. With her second pregnancy she developed a uterine infection which resulted in an emergency c-section & spay.

Mimi remained on the West Coast and retired to life as a treasured family pet with the Johnstone family in northern California. She died in 2007 of a ruptured abdominal tumor.
